Guide
What Should You Look for When Hiring an Event Photographer?
Short answer
When hiring an event photographer, look for a portfolio of real events in similar lighting, a clear coverage plan, a defined delivery timeline, a written agreement and easy communication.
Review the portfolio
Look for full events, not just highlights, and for images shot in the kind of venue and lighting you have, such as dim ballrooms or bright outdoor spaces.
Ask practical questions
- How many hours are included and what happens if the event runs long?
- How many edited images should I expect, and when?
- Is there a backup plan for equipment?
- How will the images be delivered and for how long is the gallery available?
Check the terms
A written agreement should cover the date, hours, deliverables, usage and deposit. Trestles Media uses a signed agreement and a 50% deposit to hold the date.
Consider video too
If you want recap video, choose a provider that can do both so photos and footage are coordinated.
